An intimate autumn wedding at the Grange Hotel in York
Katie and Brendan met online through a mutual love of video games almost 6 years ago. Brendan was living in America at that point. After a visit to the UK the couple realised that they might be more than friends and Brendan decided to go to university in England. What a great decision! This meant they could spend lots of time together and allowed me to photograph this wonderful wedding day in York at the Grange Hotel. Katie and Brendan looked absolutely fabulous in their wedding outfits and I am pretty sure that I will never come across turquoise Dr Martens wedding shoes again. Definitely one of my highlights!
Katie’s parents were absolute stars and helped a lot with the wedding planning. They even found my Yorkshire wedding photography business so thank you again for having me along! The wedding couples mutual love for video games was reflected in the fabulous cake and a cool and old fashioned arcade machine they extra hired for the wedding day (or did I overhear a conversation where you said you could keep it??).
The ceremony was held at the Grange Hotel’s own wedding ceremony room and accompanied by Kevin, the very talented violinist. A big highlight was of course Hamish, their super cute dog, who was a very well behaved ring barer on the day and gave his loud barking consent when the couple had their first kiss.
After the ceremony the couple enjoyed some drinks and time with their guest in the cosy and historic rooms of the Grange Hotel. It was a nice autumn afternoon which allowed us to take group photos on the hotel’s steps and to go for a little walk with Hamish the dog for some couple photos and fresh air. The red ivy on the hotel’s balcony also made for some wonderful wedding portraits.
Weddings at the Grange Hotel in York
The Grange Hotel is a beautiful four star hotel close to York city centre and only a stones throw away from York Register Office. Katie and Brendan got married at the hotel’s own ceremony room which has beautiful big French windows and is tastefully decorated, including an old fireplace and a big bookshelf which makes for a lovely wedding photo backdrop. The hotel itself has been fully renovated in 2016 and has a really cosy and elegant feel to it. I especially liked the colours they chose for all the walls throughout the hotel. It really reflected the Grange Hotels history but had a modern twist to it so it didn’t feel old fashioned. The staff were absolutely lovely and I would recommend it to anyone who is planning to have a small York city wedding.
